                                    23.12.11 Message from the President!
A very Merry Xmas and a very prosperous New Year to the cycling fraternity in particular and to all mankind in general!
If 2011 did not deliver all your wishes, then it is my wish for you that 2012 will be a much kinder year in more ways than one. The outgoing year brought us a few road traffic accidents involving cyclists but thankfully no fatalities were recorded. We pray that we will not see any such collisions in 2012.
In conclusion, enjoy the festive season and stay safe on that iron steed!
                                    Keep those pedals turning.

                                    Yours in cycling,

                                    24.10.11 Madness in Mozam!
Yesterday morning 19 cyclists headed to Aru Sul, Mozambique for the 80kms classica de Goba. The race started at 0850hrs and  the sun was out and blazing, the first 5kms was sort of neutral. The pace gradually picked up before the turn to Namaacha Lomahasha/Goba Mhlumeni), at the first climb of the Race the pace just shot up and peleton become segmented. On the turn to Goba/ Mhlumeni the pace was up again averaging between 40km/hr-45km/hr on all the false climbs. We had to constsantly asked for water and drink half the bottle & the reminder pour it over our heads to keep the body temperature down. 40kms into the race temperatures soured between 42-45 degreees and the peleton had no intentions of dropping the pace. At the Goba hill, its was where the winner was decided. There were challenges on the day,but the spirit of the cyclists couldnot be detered .The back up vehicles did a great job at trying to give hydration despite the challenges of trying to keep everyone attended to.The heat claimed casualities as some of the cyclists couldnot finish the race. However Shirley and Lungile did well as they came in 1st and 2nd after cycling 65km. Yours truly and William Kelly did finish the 80kms and am still waiting for Mario for the official results.ll of us  came back from the race with different experiences. Lastly to all the cyclists that took part in classica the Goba i am proud of you all, as went to Hell's gate & back and still standing especially our local cyclists that went to Moz.Next is the momentum 94.7 JHB,South Africa.

Yo yo yo...The turn out yesterday was really impressive and more so because we had beginners.

Not even the punctures would deter the spirit of the riders, pity to the youngster that couldnt finish due to mechanical challenges.

Wonderful news - one of our guys, Thulani Gule, won the Classica de Goba 100km and the second placed rider came in 4 minutes later!
Well done everybody involved in this race. This initiative of participating in these cross border races is now beginning to pay dividends.
Keep up the good work, guys.

Thanks to the guys who organises group trainings on weekends, let them keep up the good work because I have since discovered that when you train alone you lie to yourself that you are doing great whereas you are doing nothing.

A big thank you to James for the website,Wayne ,Ludwig and Carlos for what even in my wildest dreams can i think of attempting. Its what i will call the ultimate human test.Just the thought of 2500km on a bicycle covers my body with goose bumps.all these kilometres will be done for the less privileged.
I was very happy to see the level of competion among our cyclists in the Swaziland Milling race in Nhlangano recently. There was a great improvement in most of you especially in the 40km.As a result i heard most guys requesting for an extention of the distance. That only goes to show how fit you are.Lets retain our fitness for the up coming races ie Mafutseni Road and Imvelo Mtb in May and June respectively.
Finally i wish to wish Lungile a speedy recovery from the injuries she sustained after being hit by an irresposible driver while cycling. My request to you guys is,please try and ride in groups for more visibility. We have a huge task to improve safety of cyclists in Swaziland. I take my hat (or should that be helmet?) off to the four very brave guys who will be cycling from Manzini to Cape Town next April to raise funds for Project Free Wheel.

Your sacrifice epitomises the spirit of our sport i.e. that of giving back to society and generally wanting to uplift those who are less fortunate amongst us.

                                    Best of luck.

We all know how long it took to actually get the Swaziland Cycling Association running. My sincere thanks go out to the likes of Mandla Simelane, Mbusi Motsa, Menzi Tsela, and everybody else that was involved in writing our little success story. Between Mandla and myself, we know how long the Cycling Association was nothing but a dream, but through determination and a "never say die" attitude, dreams finally became a reality.
Keep up the good work, and hope to see all of you very soon.
Congratulations also to my dear friend Carlos Malinga - remember our Hlathikulu ride??? - on all your achievements.
